Areas of Focus
The themes below describe areas that frequently come up in psychotherapy. Each person who comes to therapy is met as an individual; this is not a list of diagnoses, but a set of areas that may be considered together.
- Anxiety, a sense of being stuck, and difficulty tolerating uncertainty
- Depressive states, low motivation, and a sense of disconnection from life
- Difficulties recognising, regulating, and expressing emotion
- Recurring conflicts in relationships, and questions of closeness and distance
- Inadequacy, guilt, shame, and questions of self-worth
- Themes related to body image, sexuality, and the sense of self
- The present-day effects of difficult past experiences and adverse childhood experiences
- Self-understanding, the search for meaning, and questions of life direction
If a concern falls outside these areas or calls for a different specialism, appropriate referral options can be considered together.
